12V Premium RGB COB LED Strip (540 LED / 9.8w / 11-1600mcd per meter)

SmartLight premium quality RGB seamless COB LED strip light with a self-adhesive 3M backing.

The 12V tape uses a maximum of 9.8 w/m of power to produce a visual intensity of between 1100 and 1600 mcd/m. The RGB strip is made from alternating Red, Green, and Blue chips and with an appropriate controller can produce a large number of colours as well as static and dynamic effects. White can also be achieved but this is created by turning the brightness to full on all the red, green, and blue LED chips, so it is not a true white and has hues of other colours in it. If true white is required then please have a look at our RGBW strips that have a true white LED embedded or use the single colour white strips.

Also it should be noted that as LEDs of alternating red, green, and blue are used, the density of each individual colour is 180 LEDs/m.

The uses are endless, from furniture to kitchen cabinets to lighting signs to accent lighting.

The tape comes with four terminating wires that need to be plugged in to an appropriate controller to be used. It can be cut every 33mm and is flexible enough to have a minimum bend diameter of only 60mm.

The IP20 rating allows the strip to handled by hand and a resistance to dust or objects over 12mm in size. If used in environments where the strip is likely to be exposed to liquids or moisture then adequate protection should be used to house the strip in.

Installing Your COB Strip Lights
COB strip lights are fairly straightforward to install. IP20 and IP65 tapes come with a strong 3M adhesive backing that will stick to most surfaces but not all - some surfaces like polyethylene or PVC or concrete are especially hard to adhere to. Cardboard can also pose a challenge sometimes as it is usually made from recycled material, which tends to have many small fibers on the surface that break away very easily. When installing, please ensure the surface is flat, smooth, clean and not too hot or too cold.

IP67 and IP68 tapes do not come with an adhesive backing as they are designed for use in situations where there is likely to be exposure to moisture or water, which would degrade the adhesive. The tape should be fixed in to place using clamps or a silicone sealant-type adhesive, or fixed using aluminium profiles.

RGB strips need an appropriate controller to be used. These controllers allow a large range of visual dynamic and static effects to be created such as fading, strobing and switching between alternating colours or multiple colours simultaneously. The controllers are usually operated with a remote control or with a mobile phone or even web technologies such as Alexa. The power supply/driver is usually plugged in to the controller which then powers the strip. We stock a large range of controllers and drivers to suit almost any requirement.

When choosing a power supply or a driver, we recommend that the strip load is 10% less than the maximum load of the driver as this extends the power supplies life by helping it manage heat better. If the strips are to be used in a commercial environment or will be switched on continuously for an extended period of time on a regular basis then we recommend using a commercial power supply as these are designed for heavy duty use.
